Castlevania

Castlevania FAQ

Last updated . Sources are linked in the text.

Castlevania began as Konami games and also has Netflix animated adaptations. Games, shows, collections and crossover DLC are separate products; these answers point to the right branch.

Games and shows

Castlevania began as Konami games in Japan on 26 September 1986. It also has two Netflix animated series, which have their own continuity. Most games can be a starting point; for a connected story, Aria precedes Dawn, and Rondo precedes Symphony. Use Start here to choose by play style.
Belmont's Curse is available as of 16 October 2026. Konami dates the release to 15 October; checked Steam US metadata responses differ on 14 versus 15 October. See the sourced release overview rather than treating one storefront response as a universal release date.
The anniversary mobile giveaway is the NES original, not Belmont's Curse. The claim window ends 24 October 2026 at 23:59 JST; the separate new-game Demo is not that app.

Where the long answers live

Order: games in order. Count: how many. Stores: where to play. Shows: watch order.
Official status checks: Nocturne season 3, Castlevania season 5 and live-action movie. Game studios: the Evil Empire, KONAMI and Motion Twin roles. The shared Dead Cells connection does not make the games one purchase.

Questions

Is Castlevania an anime?

It began as a game series. Netflix also released Castlevania (2017–2021) and Nocturne (from 2023; two released seasons). The 2025 second-season release does not establish that Nocturne ended then.

Do I need to play the games in order?

No. Order helps if you want the family chronology. It is not a mechanic requirement.

Where do I download Castlevania?

From the stores linked on the play page. This site does not host ROMs.

Is Nocturne season 3 confirmed?

No official renewal, cancellation or release date was found in the Netflix and Konami sources checked on 16 October 2026. Two released seasons do not prove cancellation.

Is Castlevania season 5 the same as Nocturne?

No. Netflix calls the original fourth season final. Nocturne is a separate successor with its own season numbering.

Is the new game free?

Belmont's Curse is a paid game with a separate free Demo. The time-limited anniversary NES mobile app is another product.
