This ranking prioritizes a clear example of each play style, collection access and useful differences between entries. It is editorial curation, not a measured review, community poll or claim of hands-on completion.

: Reviewed linked sources, availability and the scope of the answers below. Reported findings are distinguished from publisher specifications and editorial recommendations.

Ranked shortlist

  1. Symphony of the Night: first choice for Alucard, equipment and interconnected-castle exploration. Caveat: no official Steam or Switch version in the checked catalogue.
  2. Aria of Sorrow: first PC/Switch exploration pick, with Tactical Souls and Advance Collection conveniences.
  3. Rondo of Blood: first pick for Richter, branching classic stages and Maria. Caveat: Requiem is PlayStation, not PC.
  4. Super Castlevania IV: classic stage combat with a flexible directional whip, in Anniversary.
  5. Order of Ecclesia: choose glyph-based combat and a different structure after an introductory exploration game; in Dominus.
  6. Portrait of Ruin: choose switching between two heroes; in Dominus.
No numerical rating is assigned. A Switch or PC owner should move Aria above Symphony for access alone. A player seeking classic stages should move Rondo or Super IV above the exploration games.

Not a low-quality verdict

Belmont's Curse is a separately sold new option, not assigned a completion-based rank here. Lords of Shadow is 3D reboot action. Grimoire of Souls is excluded as a current purchase because Konami confirms its service ended on 3 September 2026. Availability is not a quality score.

Product references and editorial criteria

Konami: Grimoire service-end notice. An unavailable service is a purchase constraint, not evidence that the game was low quality.

Questions

Is this by Metacritic?

No. I did not copy a score table.

What if I only own a Switch?

Anniversary, Advance, Dominus, and Belmont's Curse. Not Requiem, so not Symphony of the Night.
