Aria of Sorrow soul locations and ending checklist

Last updated . Sources are linked in the text.

For progression, separate fixed ability pickups from random enemy souls. For the extended ending route, equip Flame Demon, Giant Bat and Succubus when defeating Graham. Collecting every soul is a different goal from meeting that three-soul condition.

Four soul categories

Tactical Soul categories
CategoryUse
Red / BulletEquip one attack soul; activate with Up plus the assigned attack button.
Blue / GuardianEquip one active ability; the original GBA input is R and it uses MP.
Yellow / EnchantedEquip one passive effect; Undine and Skula occupy this slot too.
Gray / AbilityPermanent movement or utility unlocks; enable them in the Ability menu.
See the community Tactical Soul overview and the full RPGClassics soul list. Konami's Advance Collection page describes the included encyclopedia. Button labels above are original GBA actions, not a claim about your physical controller mapping.

Progression souls: where to look

Key pickups and traversal abilities
SoulCategory / effectAcquisition
Flying ArmorBlue; slow falling / longer glideCastle Corridor, in the room after Creaking Skull.
MalphasGray; double jumpStudy, following the Great Armor encounter.
Skeleton BlazeGray; slideDance Hall pickup.
UndineYellow; walk on waterInner Quarters pickup.
SkulaYellow; sink underwaterAfter Death at the Clock Tower.
Giant BatBlue; bat flightAfter Balore in the Arena.
HippogryphGray; high jumpTop Floor pickup.
GalamothGray; pass Chronomage's time barrierUnderground Cemetery pickup.
Locations follow the soul reference, the RPGClassics walkthrough and the community Ability Soul table. Fixed pickups are not ordinary repeat-kill farms. If double jump or slide appears not to work, check the Ability menu as well as the equipped colored souls.

Graham: three-soul checklist

  1. Farm Flame Demon enemies in the Underground Cemetery and Succubus enemies on Top Floor for their souls. These are random enemy-soul acquisitions, not guaranteed on the first kill.
  2. Obtain Giant Bat after Balore. This is a progression pickup, not a farm from ordinary bats.
  3. Before the Graham fight at Top Floor, equip Flame Demon in the red slot, Giant Bat in blue, and Succubus in yellow. Keep that combination equipped for the defeat.
  4. After the fight, continue the newly opened story route instead of treating Graham as the end. Preserve a save before the fight if you want to revisit the ending branch.
The Graham walkthrough specifies this exact combination. The Ancient Books are clues to the combination, not additional souls to equip. These steps contain ending spoilers but do not require a 100% soul collection.

Random souls and full-list lookup

For an ordinary enemy soul, defeat the matching enemy repeatedly and check that you actually received the soul rather than an item drop. A nearby room boundary makes a repeatable farm more convenient. Owning a soul and equipping it are separate checks.
Use the complete Bullet list, Guardian list, Enchanted list and Ability list for entries beyond this progression checklist. No kill-count guarantee or unsupported drop-rate percentage is asserted here.
This is Aria of Sorrow, including its Advance Collection context, not Dawn of Sorrow. The sequel has its own soul list and equipment systems.

Questions

Do I need every soul for the Graham ending branch?

No. Equip Flame Demon, Giant Bat and Succubus in the red, blue and yellow slots when defeating Graham. Completing the entire soul collection is a separate objective.

Why can I walk on water but not dive?

Undine enables walking on water. Equip Skula instead to sink underwater; both use the yellow Enchanted slot.
