Leon and the clan's origin

Leon begins the vampire-hunting family story in this 3D adventure. Its early story date does not make it the first published game.
Leon renounces his title to rescue his betrothed Sara from a vampire's castle. Konami presents the story as the origin of the Belmont vampire-hunting clan. This is a full-3D PS2 adventure with combos and magic, rather than an earlier-looking version of the 1986 NES game.

Where to play

Not included in Anniversary, Advance, Dominus or Requiem. Original hardware is the historical option; a release-history entry alone is not proof of a current digital download.
For release versus story order, separate this game from later ports and collections.

Questions

Is it the first released Castlevania?

No. The 1094 story setting makes it an early chapter of the traditional chronology, but it was released in 2003.

Which collection includes it?

None of the four classic collections. See the acquisition section for original platforms or the separate PC product. A history page is not proof of a modern rerelease.
